Henry Beaver, Hillsboro, received a telegram Monday noon telling of the death of an uncle, Joseph E. HEISTAND, Sr., who died at the home of his granddaughter, Mrs. Ed Henderson, two miles west of Goodland Monday morning, Aug 8, 1938, age 97. Mr. Heistand who was born south of Hillsboro is well known and has a large number of relatives in this vicinity. For a number of years he has attended the annual Bever-Heistand reunion held at Veedersburg. Funeral service will be held on Wednesday afternoon at 2 o'clock at the home of Mrs. Henderson where he died. Joseph E. Heistand, Sr. son of Gideon and Elizabeth McClain Heistand was born south of Hillsboro Nov 3, 1840 and grew to manhood in this vicinity. He joined the Harmony United Brethren Church. He was married to Mary Jane Rowley, Dec 18, 1851 and 11 children were born to this union, five having died in infancy and a son and daughter died in 1912. Mr. Heistand cast his first vote for Abraham Lincoln and has voted for every Republican president since. His eldest grandson, Howard Heistand was elected as joint representative of Jasper and Newton counties in November 1936.
